SME - Society of Manufacturing Engineers
SME - Mission/Purpose
The Society of Manufacturing Engineers, (SME) is the world's leading student and professional society advancing manufacturing knowledge. SME promotes an increased awareness of manufacturing engineering and keeps manufacturing students up to date on leading trends and technologies. Manufacturing is the largest single contributor to the wealth of the world's economies, an excellent opportunity for students. SME allows students to facilitate company-university relationships as a means to positively affect the advancement of manufacturing degree programs, manufacturing trends, and supply chain issues. SME is not only a sure way to get that starting salary you have always wanted it is also a bunch of fun. Cal Poly’s SME club goes on various quarterly trips. These trips include the SEMA convention in Las Vegas, tours of the Oakley Manufacturing Facility in Irvine CA, Solar Turbines in San Diego CA, and the WESTEC design competition in Los Angeles.
