What is IME?
IME is a career focused on turning ideas into reality.
Industrial and Manufacturing Engineers start with a VISION for a new product, a new service, a new system.
They develop the new design by using the TOOLS OF INNOVATION (science, technology, experience) to bring the vision to reality.
Finally, they put practical SOLUTIONS in place to bring the idea to the rest of the world where it can do the most good.
IMEs get the job done by working with

- information,
- equipment,
- materials, and
- energy.
As a department in the College of Engineering at Cal Poly, IME houses two separate but related undergraduate majors.
