Biography
Alessandro Hill is an Assistant Professor of Industrial Engineering at the Department of Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering specializing in Operations Research. Alessandro received his PhD with highest honors from the University of Hamburg (Business School), focusing on network optimization, and a MSc in Mathematics and Computer Science from the University of Augsburg. He also brings industry experience in consulting, decision support systems, and software engineering across mining, logistics, telecommunications, automotive, and petro-chemical sectors. His project work involved organizations such as CSX Transportation, Q8 Oils, BMW, and Case New Holland.
Research Interests
Alessandro’s research interests span both applied and methodological research. His main application areas are strategic telecommunication network design, social network analysis, production scheduling, and transportation planning. He specializes in the development and application of methods including scheduling, simulation, data analytics, and mathematical optimization. His work has received multiple INFORMS awards and has been published in journals including INFORMS Journal on Computing, European Journal of Operational Research, and Networks.
