FAQs

Any company, nonprofit, startup, or government agency can sponsor a senior project. Ideal sponsors have a real-world problem or process improvement challenge that an Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering student team can work on over the academic year.

IME student teams are assigned by faculty based on project needs, student interests, and skill sets. Efforts are made to ensure balanced teams that are well-suited to complete the sponsor’s project effectively.

Projects with confidentiality concerns are welcome. The IME department provides nondisclosure agreements (NDAs) for students and faculty if needed, and can work with sponsors to ensure sensitive information is handled appropriately while still meeting academic requirements.

Sponsors receive a fresh perspective on a real problem, actionable recommendations, and support from a student team over three quarters. Projects often result in process improvements, cost savings, or early-stage designs. Sponsors also engage with future talent and increase visibility among Cal Poly students.
