Biography

Dr. Jianbiao John Pan is a professor in the Department of Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering (IME) at Cal Poly. Previously, he served as the department chair and graduate coordinator for the Department of Manufacturing Systems Engineering and Management (MSEM) at California State University, Northridge (CSUN) from 2022 to 2024. He was the Student Success and Advising Faculty Scholar in the College of Engineering at Cal Poly during the academic year of 2021 – 2022. He served as the graduate coordinator within the IME department from 2013 to 2018. Prior to joining Cal Poly, he worked at Lucent Technologies/Agere Systems as a member of technical staff. He received a Ph.D. degree in Industrial Engineering from Lehigh University, Bethlehem, PA.

Dr. Pan is a recipient of the William D. Ashman – John A. Wagnon Technical Achievement Award from the International Microelectronics Assembly and Packaging Society (IMAPS) in 2022, the Raytheon Excellence in Teaching and Applied Research Award in the College of Engineering at Cal Poly in 2018, the Outstanding Educator Award from IMAPS in 2011, and the M. Eugene Merchant Outstanding Young Manufacturing Engineer Award from the Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME) in 2004. He has served as the Editor-in-Chief of Journal of Microelectronics and Electronic Packaging since 2012 and an Associate Editor of IEEE Transactions on Components, Packaging and Manufacturing Technology from 2011 to 2018. He is a Fellow of IMAPS, a senior member of IEEE, a senior member of ASQ, and a senior member of SME. He is an ABET program evaluator.
