Student clubs

Cal Poly’s Industrial & Manufacturing Engineering student clubs bring the Learn by Doing philosophy to life. Through hands-on projects, company collaborations, and professional development events, students apply their skills to real-world challenges. From optimizing systems for local organizations to hosting industry leaders like Tesla, Deloitte, and Boeing, these clubs give IME students the chance to connect, lead, and make an impact beyond the classroom.

Systems Optimization Club

SOC gives students real opportunities to put their education into action, tackling engineering, technology, and logistics challenges in real industry environments through semester-long projects or weekly consulting case studies guided by experts. It also supports students professionally by helping them build the skills and confidence needed to present and defend their findings in the workplace and to represent themselves effectively to bosses, recruiters, and future coworkers—something they continue to refine at our bi-annual networking nights. On top of all that, SOC offers the social and personal growth that comes from bonding with teammates during projects and connecting with other students at club socials.
